The Scimitar Oryx is named referring to its magnificent horns,
re a scimitar. It inhabits semi-desert areas in north central
Africa, but is considered to be extinct in the wild.
Some were imported to Texas in the 1970's which now number in the
thousands due to the good work of Texas game reserves and breeding
programs. Hunting Scimitar Oryx is restricted in Texas, as CITES
permits as required, which we have, making this opportunity to hunt
even more meaningful.
This amazing animal can survive without water for even 9-10
months, a notable adaption to the desert climate, because their kidneys
prevent loss of water from urination.
The scimitar Oryx is a very sociable animal forming herds of up to 70
animals. Birth peaks between March and October.
Gestitation lasts 8-9 months with the calf weighing an average of 20-30
pounds. Within hours after birth, mothers and calves return
to the main herd.
